Committee News We would like to warmly welcome our four new committee members: Prof. Nancy Papalopulu, University of Manchester; Prof. Ana Pombo, Imperial College and Dr. Silke Robatzek, The Sainsbury Laboratory and Dr. James Wakefield, University of Exeter. We would also like to extend our thanks to Professor Iain Hagan who has retired from the committee after many years service. Thanks also to Adrian Harwood for his sterling work as BSCB treasurer which recently included overseeing the transition to the new membership administration services. The new treasurer is Professor Caroline Austin. Good Luck Caroline! We are also pleased to welcome to the committee Kimberly Bryon-Dodd, based in the MRC LMCB, as the new Postgraduate representative and Dr. Alexis Barr from the Institute for Cancer Research in London, as the new Postdoc Rep. Thanks go to Iman van den Bout who has left the committee and moved onto pastures new.

BSCB Mission Statement The British Society for Cell Biology (founded 1965; registered charity no. 265816) is dedicated to the advancement of research in all branches of cell biology and to fostering the interchange of information between cell biologists and with the public. The BSCB is run on a voluntary basis by a committee of scientists drawn from a wide range of institutions within the UK. The BSCB organises and supports meetings and conferences relevant to cell biology, disseminates information of interest to cell biologists via its bi-annual newsletter and more widely via its website, and plays an increasing role in raising awareness of science policy issues in the UK.  It is particularly committed to nurturing scientists at early stages in their careers (undergraduates, PhD students and postdoctoral workers) by providing generous travel grants for attendance at meetings, undergraduate bursaries and vacation studentships.  In addition, the committee has PhD and postdoctoral representatives who organize networking events and workshops relevant to students and postdocs at our annual Spring Meeting. The BSCB is also committed to engaging with schools and the general public by provision of freely available authoritative cell biological knowledge online. Funding for the BSCB comes mostly from membership fees and a generous grant from the Company of Biologists.
